About

Welcome to my corner!

This website exists to host all my ramblings about my craft projects, and because I gave in to the retro charm of web 2.0. If you are one of the three people who will read this, come and say hi in the comments!

About the name

It's an embroidery joke. "À fils tirés" means "drawn thread," an embroidery technique, but also echoes the French title of the Knives Out! movies series (À couteaux tirés), purely because I thought they were fun movies.

Why a .eu domain? It's a tiny love letter to the European Union. When I first found out about it as a child, I thought it was awesome that a bunch of countries could get along like that. I've since found out that it's a little more complex, but I still think it's awesome. Besides, I am a French person living in the Netherlands, so I'm enjoying the benefits of being an EU citizen in a very real and direct way.

About me

I have a side hobby of getting new hobbies.

Embroidery was my gateway drug... One fine day in the spring of 2018, I sort of just woke up and thought "what if I tried embroidery?" and promptly ordered a cross-stitch kit. (That's a lie. None of my supply shopping ever goes promptly.) I've since gotten into sewing, crochet, knitting, learned all kinds of mending techniques, joined workshops for a bunch of different types of printing and weaving, and there's always something on the list. I never did finish that first kit, though.

The other stuff (cooking, gardening, reading, and more) is just how I was raised. My dad taught me to cook and now I know more than him. Gardening is trial-and-error. Reading happens in phases. See all my links here.
